Nivea Micellar Water Review | Healthbiztips

@healthbiztips by Arlene Gentallan | beauty blog

Let's review Nivea Micellar Water. This is a 3-in-1 cleanser that contains absolutely no alcohol which is great for people with sensitive skin because it doesn't cause dryness.

Nivea Micellar Water Review | Healthbiztips
Nivea Micellar Water Review | Healthbiztips

It has a very mild scent and when you apply it on your skin, it doesn't sting nor cause pain. In fact, micellar water is so gentle that you can even apply it around the sensitive area around your eyes. That's incredible because most other cleansers tells you not to put them around your eye area.

Nivea Micellar Water Review | Healthbiztips
Nivea Micellar Water Review | Healthbiztips

I have here the Acne Clear Micellar Water by Nivea which deeply cleanses pores by removing hard to reach dirts, oils, and impurities. It's a great skincare product to prevent acne because, it doesn't only remove the bad stuffs from deep inside your pores, it actually prevents clogging of pores.

By the way, there are other versions of Nivea's Micellar Water like the Extra White. Here I got the Acne Clear because I got to get rid of these nasty pimples.

You know how those hard to remove waterproof make-up can be really tough to wipe away? Then, Nivea micellar water might just be the thing you are looking for. This cleanser can remove waterproof makeup! Although, I have to warn you that it can not remove 100% of those waterproof makeup. Like for example, I've encountered a case when this cleanser fail to remove a waterproof mascara. Nevertheless, this is still one of the good products out there in the market.

Nivea's Micellar Water contains Magnolia Bark Extract which has an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory property. It kills bacteria and reduces swelling and redness on your face.

This skincare product comes in this blue tinged plastic bottle with a white cap. On the bottom part of the bottle, you'll see the expiration date.

Nivea Micellar Water Review | Healthbiztips

The cleanser has a transparent water-like consistency with a mild scent. When you shake the bottle, it actually forms a foam on the surface of the liquid.

To use this cleanser, you simply put a desired amount of micellar water into a cotton pad or a cotton ball, then wipe it over your face. Afterward, you can either choose to wash your face with water or not at all.

I have here a 125ml bottle of micellar water which is small enough to be brought during outdoor activities. There's  a bigger variation which is a 200ml bottle.

That's it. I hope you find this review useful.

Does wearing high heels boosts confidence? | Healthbiztips

@healthbiztips by Arlene Gentallan | health | beauty | psychology

Individuals striding in high heels gives bystanders the impression of fearlessness and empowerment, but does standing in a high platform really build confidence or is it just an illusion created by assuming such tall stature?

Yes, walking in high heels does give certain people confidence. Wearing high heels changes the body's center of gravity, so in order to be able to walk in high heels, one has to assume a good posture in which the chest is held out, tummy is held in, and the head is positioned in line with the spine. This obliges the wearer to stand straight which many may find attractive and professional.

In a way, standing in high heels commands it's wearer to take on a high power pose. The highly criticized research by Amy Cuddy reveals that adopting a high power pose, in which the individual stands or sits straight with hands spread out to assume a dominant posture even for as little as 2 minutes can have a significant biochemical effect on a person, such that it increases the level of testosterone while decreasing the stress hormone cortisol. This hormonal changes makes the person feel positive and less anxious.

If you want to grab attention, then high heels is your friend. A study reveals that the higher the heels women wear, the more they get noticed, particularly by men. Wearing heels is fashion statement that speaks height, attractiveness, and femininity.

I did mention that high heels does indeed increases the confidence of "certain people" because high heels is absolutely not a confidence builder for all type of people. For example, take the case of a woman whose height is 5'10" and imagine how she might feel in a crowd when she wears an incredibly high heels. Indeed, she would really stand out in a weird way.

Let's not forget that wearing high heels regularly can have negative repercussions because it increases the risk of musculoskeletal problem and injury as it puts the feet in an unnatural position.

In my opinion, walking in high heels is a complicated stance, especially to those who are not used to it. I know a person who got so embarrassed for falling in a high heel that she vow never to wear it again as it certainly did an awful impact on her confidence. On the hand, I know a woman who gains incredible confidence when she's on high heels. Whether or not wearing high heels will increase one's confidence still depends on the preference and mindset of the one whose wearing it.

How to Wear High Heels Correctly | Healthbiztips

@healthbiztips by Arlene Gentallan | beauty blog

Wearing high heels takes fashion to the next level, but if you're doing it all wrong, it can bring you a whole lot of pain. It is undeniable that wearing high heels is a fashion trend that has withstand the test of time, now, but the real question is "how long can your feet take on this challenge?"

1. Know your limits!

High heels usually measure 4 to 10 inches in height. If you think about it for a moment, that sounds gleefully horrifying. I guess with great heights comes great sacrifice.

You see, the biology of the human feet is not designed to walk on high heels all day long. In fact, the recommended number of hours one should spend walking or standing on a high heel is just one hour. A single hour is not enough for a party!

Since, you're supposed to only walk on high heels for one hour, what do you do then? Simple, you take breaks! Sit down and give your feet the rest it deserves. Beauty can mean pain, but don't let it kill you!

Wearing high heels for long periods of time can give you unwanted health issues like increase your risk to develop osteoarthritis, callus, joint and muscle pain.

2. Choose the right size

Wear a shoes that fits you. It's no brainier that an ill-fitted shoes can cause unwanted stress to your feet.

Trying out a high heel shoe before you decide to purchase it is a wise and satisfying. Take note that you have to take into consideration both your feet length and width when choosing a shoe. A thick feet on a thin shoes can be painful.

3. Insoles

Inserting insole on your shoes is a clever way to improve comfort and ease foot pain you're using your high heel shoe. These foot pads also allows your feet to correctly mold into the shape of your shoes.

Insoles provide support, and decrease the impact on your feet when you are walking as it acts as a shock absorber.

Even wearing socks offers comfort and support.

4. Wear shoes with thicker soles

If you'd want to last longer on heels, choose a variety that have a thicker soles. Platform and wedge heels offers better support than pointy stilettos.

5. Back-up fashion

The glory of stature and appeal isn't just restricted to high heels. There are days, when you really have to ditch your high heels for a pair of a more comfortable shoes, especially during times when you know you'll do more foot work.

If you know that you'll have to walk for hours and hours, better bring your brain than your heels. At times, you have to realize that it is flat shoes that you'll be needing. You don't want stilettos to be the death of you.

You'll last longer when you wear a shorter heel. A person usually tolerates medium sized heels which are about 1.5 to 3.5 inches for about 3 hours. Low heels with height of 1.5 inches or shorter like kitten heels is tolerable for about 4 hours a day.

Can collagen be absorbed through the skin? | Healthbiztips

@healthbiztips by Arlene Gentallan

I've found this face mask and toner that claims to contain collagen, but I know collagen is a protein that is too large to be absorbed by the skin, so what is the science behind this?

Can collagen be absorbed through the skin or is this another marketing strategy to make me buy this beauty product?

The verdict:

Sad to say but topically applied collagen, such as those found in facial creams, are too large to be absorbed by the pores of the skin. It simply is not possible.

Collagen is extensively marketed in the beauty industry because of it's incredible cosmetic benefits such as improvement in the elasticity of the skin, minimization of sagging, and reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Collagen containing skincare products usually comes at such a high price, but many beauty enthusiasts are not aware that their skin is not capable of absorbing such large molecule of collagen.

Collagen is a protein that makes up a large percentage of the human body, not just the skin. It is what makes structure tough, elastic, and pliable. Humans can naturally produce collagen, but with age, the ability to manufacture this protein diminishes which leads to signs of aging such as wrinkling and sagging.

There are beauty companies who blatantly advertise that the collagen content of their topical beauty formula can be directly be absorbed by the skin, however, we know that this is simply not possible given the biology of the human skin.

On the other hand, there are beauty products out there that rely on potent ingredients their skincare products contains to boosts the skin's natural ability to produce collagen.

Nature Republic Real Squeeze Aloe Vera Essence Review | Healthbiztips

@healthbiztips by Arlene Gentallan | beauty blog | review

Nature Republic's Real Squeeze Aloe Vera Essence from Korea is a more concentrated form of aloe vera facial moisturizer with it's high level of aloe vera leaf extract (378,100ppm). This skincare product delivers intense hydration that feels soothing and wonderful on your face.

It contains polysaccharides which helps renew skin cells to help fight damages caused by environmental factors such as stress and sun exposure.

It also contains California fruit ferment which makes the skin soft and firm.

If you find the regular aloe vera gel too light on your face, the you may find this Real Squeeze Aloe Vera Essence more effective. Let's face it, when you live with a dry skin, you are more prone to acne.

There are good reviews claiming how this skincare product helps them prevent pimple outbreaks. It's  a good product for all skin types. Even individuals with oily skin can benefit from using this product.

It's more concentrated than typical aloe vera gel so it's effect lasts longer. Perfect for those on the go.

This aloe vera essence smells really good.

The packaging

It comes in "kawaii" glossy green plastic bottle which contains 50 ml or 1.69 fl. oz. This product does looks fancy and cute on the outside.

The plastic bottle is hard and sturdy so it doesn't form a dent when you squeeze it.

Anyways, you're not supposed to squeeze it because it has a pump to dispense the aloe vera essence. It has a resealable cap to minimize risk of contamination.

Cost

However, in terms of cost, it does come at a way higher price compared to Nature Republic's Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel.

USA price: $22.90
The Philippines price: ₱895.00

Skincare Benefits of Nature Republic's Real Squeeze Aloe Vera Essence:

  • Moisturizes skin.
  • Lightens dark spots and pimple marks.
  • Boosts skin regeneration
  • Soothes and heals.
  • Lightens scars.

How to use Nature Republic's Real Squeeze Aloe Vera Essence?

After you remove dirt from your face with a toner, you can then proceed to apply this Real Squeeze Aloe Vera Essence on your face. You just need about 2 to 3 pumps to cover your entire face. It absorbs into the skin easily and doesn't leave you with an oily mess.

Are cosmetics safe during pregnancy?

Is there a hidden risk in using personal care products during the prenatal period - Healthbiztips

Few women realize the risk of using cosmetics or personal care products during pregnancy. Cosmetics and skincare products notoriously contains multiple chemicals which can get absorbed into the body.

@healthbiztips by Arlene Gentallan

Study shows that women who use paraben and phthalate containing cosmetics and personal care products like makeup, lotion, shampoo, and soap have indeed higher level of these chemicals in their body. This implies that the ingredients in the beauty products that we use seeps into the skin and gets into our circulation.

Paraben (a chemical preservative) and phthalate (a chemical softener and solvent) are known to impair the male hormone testosterone. Paraben has been found in breast tumors of women which raises concern about it's possible link with cancer.

Are these claims with merit?

There's a lot of controversy surrounding the use of cosmetics during pregnancy, however, there is no concrete evidence that indicts the use chemical-laiden cosmetic products during the child-bearing period as the direct cause of negative outcome in the physical and mental development of the fetus.

The cosmetics industry is a huge business, however, it's effect on pregnancy is a poorly researched topic.

The fact that there is no significant link that cosmetic chemical ingredients such as paraben and phthalate directly cause a health problem such as cancer is is the reason why the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) do not ban the use these stuffs in cosmetics.

Chemical-laiden cosmetics have risks

Accoring to the US FDA "It’s important to know that the law does not require cosmetic products or ingredients to have FDA approval before they go on the market."

Scrutiny when using cosmetics especially during the prenatal period is crucial to both the mother and the developing fetus.

A mother wants what's best for her child. This makes pregnant mother all the more critical with the things they put on their body. However, a tube of lipstick or a bottle of lotion can contain such an astonishingly high number of chemicals that most of us don't have the slightest idea of their effect on our health, let alone, remember all their names.

Are cosmetics deemed fit for pregnant mothers? Pregnancy is a vulnerable period in a woman's life with plenty of hormonal changes that can lead to discomfort such as morning sickness, and drastic body changes like the appearance of stretch mark and skin pigmentation which can make her self conscious with her body image.

To some women, they find answer and reassurance in using all natural chemical free beauty and cosmetic products.

Cosmetic use during pregnancy can disrupt the growth of male children

A study shows that pregnant mothers who are exposed to cosmetic and personal care preservatives parabens and triclosan consequently gave birth to children who have higher birth weight. Babies who are born with higher weights increase their likelihood of being obese later in life.

Paraben is a widely used perservative in cosmetics to increase it's shelf life by inhibiting the growth of bacteria and mold. Triclosan is a preservative used in soap and toothpastse.

Retinol and Salicylic acid

Many women becomes conscious when it comes to the foods they eat during pregnancy, but a lot of them may not realize that what they put on their skin also matters. Skincare products containing retinol and salicylic acid are not recommended for pregnant mothers.

Retinol and salicylic acid can have detrimental effect on the developing fetus when given in taken in large quantity.

While a face cream applied on the face usually contains low amount of these chemicals, body lotion, which covers a large surface area, can consequently deliver a higher amount of these stuffs into the bood stream.

Cosmetics and skincare products are indispensable commodity of many pregnant mother, however, when it comes the baby's development, I'd say it's better safe than sorry.

Switching to all natural personal care products is a wise choice as this not only removes worries, but is also beneficial to both the user and her environment.

The danger of fake skincare products

If you don't want to sabotage your face with a fake Nature Republic Aloe Vera 92% Soothing Gel, then you have to be extra careful. Testimonies of using fake skincare product that caused devastating results are on the rise.

Fake Nature Republic Aloe Vera gel don't live to the real products skin benefits. Using it can cause problems like infection, irritation, and allergic reaction.

Fake skincare products are usually processed in an unsanitary way, causing them to contain such high bacterial count which can aggravate pre-existing skin problems and cause infection.

Real Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing Gel contains 92% aloe vera, but it's fake version can contain very little or no aloe vera at all.

If you're looking for quality and affordability, counterfeit products should not be on your list.

How to spot a fake Nature Republic Aloe Vera Gel: Real versus Fake

It is very hard to single out a fake Nature Republic aloe vera gel. You see, under a naked eye, the real and the counterfeit looks the same. However, there are ways to spot if an aloe vera gel is fake.

Let's get this list started!

1. Don't be fooled

Shockingly, a fake Nature Republic Aloe Vera soothing gel can have such a striking similarity with the real one. In fact, to an untrained eye, it is virtually impossible to spot the fake product.

With this decisive product scrutiny, you know that the counterfeit industry is thriving.

Don't get fooled with these fake products. Here's what you should look for on the outer packaging.

  • Feel the texture of the packaging sticker on the top.
  • Notice the color of the text imprinted on it.
  • Spot the "Nature Republic" brand on the outer packaging.

2. A give away right on the top

Nature Republic has put some thought in making their aloe vera packaging. You can tell by this simple detail that's lacking in fake ones.

See the top packaging of the aloe vera gel wherein there's an image of four slices of aloe vera stack up together and their's a liquid poured on it. Trace the image of the liquid with your fingertips. If what you're holding is a real Nature  Republic Aloe Vera Gel, then you'll feel that the liquid and even it's waterdrop is embossed. This liquid image on the authentic version is glossy and shinny,

If you're holding a fake aloe vera gel, then it's top sticker packaging will not have this embossed image of a liquid.

3. Color Difference

Printed texts on the top and bottom of the Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing gel is green in color. Notice the difference. The real aloe vera gel has a green text on it's packaging versus the fake one with yellowish tint on it.

Go for the green!

4. The devil lies in the details

If you're holding a real Nature Republic Aloe Vera gel, look closer at the small image on the bottom part of the tub. It's an image of an aloe vera plant encased in a circle with a green background. It's on the upper left corner on the bottom of the tub. You should notice that there are tiny dots printed on it.

If you are holding a fake aloe vera gel, then you won't see those tiny dots on the aloe vera image.

5. The Nature Republic seal

When you open the Nature Republic Aloe Vera gel, their should be a transparent lid inside that is embossed with the brand "NATURE REPUBLIC" if it's the original one.

If it's fake, there's usually no brand name on it's inner lid.

The brand Nature Republic is also embossed on the sides of the outer top lid and at the buttom of the tub.

6. The product itself

While we can be fooled with the fake Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing gel on the outside, it has a much more difference from the original in terms of it's content.

Real aloe vera gel by Nature Republic has a light fragrant smell, while it's fake version has a strong scent.

The real aloe vera gel is almost liquidy and transparent. It glides and flows smoothly compare to the fake one. You can spot it's fake version based on the consistency of the aloe vera gel.

A fake aloe vera gel does't glide and flow. It's like a soft transparent gel, so when you apply it, it doesn't absorb as quick as the real one.

Scathe the surface of the gel and leave the real aloe vera gel on it's tub for a few minutes. You'll notice that the real aloe vera gel's surface evens out, while that of the fake counterpart remains riffle.

7. The price trap

There are things you simply can't buy when you don't have the money or if  you're not willing to pay the full price, like quality.

Now, when it comes to buying skincare products like Nature Republic Aloe Vera gel, it may be a really bad idea to sacrifice quality for affordability.

If you see an aloe vera gel that claims to be a skincare product of Nature Republic but costs insanely cheaper compared to it's suggested retail price, then this is a red flag that the product is fake.

In fact, fake products usually find their way to willing consumers because they come at a very cheap price.

8. Where did you buy it?

Where in the world did you purchase that tub of Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing gel? Is it from an accredited shop? A pop-up shop that appeared on the side walk? Did you bought that seemingly real aloe vera gel from a shady online seller?

Where you buy your stuff matters. If you're buying from an accredited reseller outlet or a trusted online shop with lots of positive feedback from satisfied costumers, then you can be confident you're purchasing a real Nature Republic Aloe Vera Soothing Gel.

It is a wise move to fist check on the feedback of an online seller before you purchase from them. If you see that they have an unusually high number of bad reviews or their are costumers who claim their products are fraud, then there's a high possibility that what they're actually selling are fake.

Brands like Nature Republic isn't a brand that you'll find in a pop-up booth with no valid permit or papers.

Imagine you're in Divisoria, Manila in the Philippines and you're being offered a tub of Nature Republic Aloe Vera Gel at a cost less than half compared to the mall price. You got to know that deal is fake, right? You have an instant give away right there.

There are places where real products are being sold. It goes the same for fake ones.

So, that's out list of 8 ways you can determine if you've got a fake Nature Republic 92% Aloe Vera Soothing Gel.
